Abstract: newline Textile industry is one of the oldest and traditional industries in the world starting from 3000 BC. The Textile Industry has a significant role in the economy of any country, especially in country like India. It has major contribution to the economy of the country for last many decades. This proven in terms of its share in respect of the industrial production process, techniques employed, employment opportunities as well as foreign exchange earnings and has witnessed a phenomenal growth. newlineIndian Textile industry is the single largest organized sector in the country which employs almost 25 percent of the country s labour force. The textile industry is one of the important industries that generate a large amount of industrial effluents. newlineRegardless of being in the age of automation, the Indian textile industries still practice old and obsolete technologies, machinery and equipment. To make the textile industries competitive with the current automated era, Government of India has approved various schemes such as the National Textile Policy, 2000 to allow the textile industry to achieve and maintain a prominent global position in manufacturing and apparel export, Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme to facilitate the installation of cutting-edge machinery or near a competitive capital cost. Also Scheme for Integrated processing development Scheme, 2015 was introduced to address environmental issues related to effluent treatment. Furthermore, Common Effluent Treatment Plants for wastewater treatment offers a level playing field for all segments. newlineThe Textile industry in India has undergone through process of major transformations from an immature form to an adult form in two or more distinct stages in terms of both the strategies as well as processes.
