Abstract: | newlineThe research explores the possible intervention of computers in the newlinegenerative concept stage of designing The research was initiated with an newlineaim to capture the complexities of the process of design It took a positive newlineturn with the introduction of the context as the problem of re housing the newlinefisher folk after the Dec 26th 2004 Tsunami What started as a broad attempt newlineto study the design protocol and capture the design process became focused newlineon how to generate complex patterns by simple rules and make it socially newlinerelevant The objective was to capture the complexity and character of a newlinenaturally grown fishing settlement through simple rules and incorporate them newlinein the process of design A design tool was developed for this purpose This newlinedesign tool used a generative evolutionary design technique which is based newlineon multidisciplinary methods Facets of designing addressed in this research newlineare allocation of each design element space and geometry newlinedefining the rules constraints and relationships governing the newlineelements of design the purposeful search for better alternative solutions newlinequantitative evaluation of the solution based on spatial comfort newlinecomplexity criterions to ensure the needed complexity usability newlinein the solutions newline |
