Stream of Consciousness A comparative study of women characters in the selected novels of Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni and Doris Lessing

Abstract

The present study addresses the question of how Stream of Consciousness technique is used in the novels of Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni and Doris Lessing by comparing the novels of both the authors. Both the selected authors are feminist, diasporic and contemporaries to each other until the newlinedeath of Doris Lessing. Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni was born in Kolkata (Calcutta), India and later migrated to California, U.S.A. hence her works are largely set in India and United States, and often focus on the experiences of South Asian immigrants. Doris Lessing was born of British parents, in Persia. She first came to England when she was thirty, in 1949. She brought with her the manuscript of her first novel, The Grass in Singing (1950).
