In recent existence, varieties of natural compounds are known that would newlineprobably facilitate in interference and treatment of diseases. One plant that has been newlineutilized in mental conditions and sicknesses is creeping wood sorrel Oxalis corniculata newlineL. It is ordinarily called Indian Sorrel (Puliiyarai in Tamil), and belongs to the newlineOxalidaceae family. It is a major tranquilizer, CNS-stimulant and it has antiepileptic newlinedrug properties. Since Oxalis has multiple useful qualities, during this study, an attempt newlinehas been made to demonstrate the therapeutic effectiveness of standardized ethanolic newlineextract of O. corniculata against MPTP iatrogenic oxidative damage, in Parkinson s newlinesickness mice model. newline newlineThe medicinal herb Oxalis corniculata was collected from Tirunelveli newlineDistrict. Mature and healthy plants were collected naturally from different locations in newlinethe month of February, March and April. C57 black male mice were used (weighing 25 newline± 5 g) for experiments. The experiments were accepted by the Institutional Ethical newlineCommittee for mice use of laboratory animals. newline newlineExperimental procedure: newlineThe animals were divided into six groups, each consisting of six mice. newline1. Group I served as vehicle control (Distilled water) newline2. Group II received MPTP (20 mg/kg, i.p) (Sigma- Aldrich, Bangalore, India) newlinefour consecutive days, newline3. Group III received MPTP + carbidopa + levodopa (100mg/kg, p.o) newline4. Group IV received MPTP + ethanol extract of Oxalis (250 mg/kg, p.o) newline5. Group V received MPTP + ethanol extract of Oxalis (500 mg/kg, p.o) newline6. Group VI received only ethanol extract of Oxalis (500 mg/kg, p.o) newline newlineSteroids, sugars, phenolic compounds, flavonoids and tannins are predominantly newlinepresent in the plant powder. Sugars and amino acids are only present in ethyl alcohol extract. Catechins and anthroquinone are totally absent in the selected extract. High newlinequantity of phenols and flavonoids were found in O. corniculata. The values of newlineglycosides and serpentines were very trace on the plant. The flavonoid content of newlineethanol extract of the O. corniculata
