dc.description.abstract | Evaluation of Bone Metabolism and Liver Function in Post Renal Transplant Patients newlineKidneys perform some very important functions including removal of excess fluid, minerals, and wastes from the blood and regulating blood pressure. Kidney failure may lead to dearrangement of various functions resulting in development and complications like BMD, SHPT etc. In case of renal failure treatment options available are either dialysis or kidney transplant. Each treatment option has its benefits and drawbacks. The present study was planned to evaluate longitudinally various bone mineral metabolites and liver function tests in CKD patients at the stage of pre renal transplant, 3-months and 6 months post renal transplant. 150 CKD stage 5 patients opting for renal transplant were based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria enrolled for the study. The patients were screened for Renal function profile (urea, creatinine, uric acid, k+) ; bone mineral metabolites (ca+2, po4,vitD, iPTH, ALP), Liver function profile (AST, ALT, T.Bil, Alb), coagulation profile (PT ,APTT) and hemoglobin following transplant. 3 months and 6 months follow up screening for the above samples are performed. Results obtained were statistically analyzed. Overall improvement in the mean levels of Bone mineral metabolites. Liver function profile was also not much affected following renal transplant. However, vitamin D deficiency was observed in pre renal transplant patients. 25-hydroxyvitamain D deficiency 86% pre renal transplant patients and 73.34% post 3 months, 54% post 6 months after renal transplant patients. Similarly 90% patients had elevated iPTH in pre renal transplant and continued 83.33% in post 3 months, 70.67% in post 6 months after renal transplant. Anemia was another challenge that was identified in patients following renal transplant. The present study agree with literature, good outcomes in patients after renal transplantation can still present important biochemical changes associated with deterioration of bone quality.
