The world is confronted with two major crises one is depletion of newlinefossil fuel and the other one environmental degradation One method to newlineovercome the crisis is to find suitable substitutes for the petroleum based newlinefuels Vegetable oils are receiving a lot of attraction as an alternative fuel for newlineengines as they are renewable and can be used in engines without employing newlineany expensive modification Their properties are closer to those of diesel newlineexcept for viscosity The main problems with the use of neat vegetable oils in newlinediesel engines are high smoke levels and relatively low thermal efficiency due newlineto high viscosity and carbon residue as compared to diesel Generally they are newlineconverted to their methyl esters biodiesel and used in automotive newlineapplications newline newlineen_US
