A Comparative Analysis of Users and Non Users of ICT Services in Libraries with Special Reference to Higher Educational Institutions of Agra

Abstract

The aim of the present study is to evaluate the opinion of users and non-users regarding ICT services in library with special reference to higher educational institutions of Agra. Descriptive survey method was employed in the present research. Researcher selected four higher educational institutions located in Agra region such as (Dayalbagh Educational Institute) as deemed university, Dr. B R AmbedkarUniversity (University campus) as a one professional state university and one medical college such as (S N medical college) and (BAMS College of technology) through the purposive sampling method. First of all, knowing the advance knowledge of ICT, a questionnaire bases on awareness and accessibility of ICT was administrate on 500 students who were selected through simple random method in which 345 users and 155 non users were found through the criteria i.e. awareness and accessibility of ICT services .Questionnaires (ICT awareness scale, demographic profile, Assessment scale of ICT infrastructure and human resources) were constructed by the researcher for the collections of primary data.Maximum percentage of non users belongs to low socio-economic status whereas ICT users belongs to average or above average socio-economic status families. It is due to the availability of ICT resources in the rich families whereas the families belonging to low socio-economic status failed to afford the ICT infrastructure and resources for their children so they are facing the problem which using ICT resources in the Library at higher education level. newlineAs per opinion of students, the availability of computers in library as per need of the students, the Internet surfing/speed in library, availability of updated software in library, teleconferencing facility in library, availability of accession list of books in library, availability of accession list of books in library, cataloguing of books in library, serial control of books and journals in library, photo-state facility in library, paper printing facility in library, collection of E-books and journals in library, motivated, competent and cooperative ICT leading staff in library found inadequate in libraries with special reference to higher educational institutions. Regarding human resource (motivated, competent and cooperative ICT leading staff in library), students (users and non users) were found dissatisfied or express a major problem facing in the library in comparison of adequacy of physical resources. newline newline
