Abstract: | Social Networking Sites are dominating all internet users generations, especially the students communities. Consequently, academic institutions are increasing using Social Networking Sites which leads to emerge a crucial question regarding the impact of Social Networking Sites on Academic Performance of the students. This research investigated how and to what degree Social Networking Sites Usage affect the Academic Performance of the students in Indore city. To collect data three tools: Social Networking Sites Academic Performance Relationship Scale, Palsane and Sharma Study Habits Inventory (PSSHI) and Eysenck Personality Revised-Short-Questionnaire were used. Descriptive research design was adopted for this study. 400 undergraduate students of professional courses were selected using Judgemental Sampling Technique. Analysis of data was done using Independent Samples t-Test and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation. Research results of t-test shows that there was a significant difference (p lt 0.05, t = 0.387) in Academic Performance of Introvert and Extrovert students. Correlation analysis results shows that there was a Positive and Moderate Correlation (p lt 0.05, r = 0.467, r = 0.635, r = 0.441 and r = 0.600) among Usage of Social Networking Sites, Purpose of Social Networking Sites Usage, Time Duration, Friends-People Connection and Academic Performance of the students respectively while there was again Positive but Low Correlation (p lt 0.05, r = 0.207 and r = 0.312) found among Nature of Usage, Health Addiction and Academic Performance of the students. Again there was a Positive but Low Correlation (p lt 0.05, r = 0.355) found between Usage of Social Networking Sites and Study Habits of the students. The findings of this research can be used to suggest future strategies for enhancing students awareness in using Social Networking Sites that can lead to improve their Study Habits and Academic Performance. |
