Abstract: The main purpose of this work is to reduce the newlineamount of expensive material such as Haste Alloy, SS 316, SS 304 used in manufacturing newlineof sewage, chemical pump shafts. In this work an attempt is made to replace 2/3rd length of newlinethe shaft made of SS316 or SS304 or Haste alloy, which are expensive materials with EN-8, newlinewhich is cheaply available. Friction welding is employed to join two dissimilar materials such newlineas SS304 with EN-8, which is not possible by any other joining processes. Taguchi design of newlineexperiment is adapted and an experimental investigation is carried out to determine the newlineoptimal process parameters which give the highest mechanical properties of the dissimilar newlinematerial joint. This research is based on the input given by the company named SEEMA newlinePUMPS PRIVATE LTD, Hyderabad. Who are keen to reduce the cost of the shaft material newlinewithout sacrificing the mechanical properties of the shaft. The second part of this experimental newlinestudy pertains to joining of Brass by friction welding and determining optimal process newlineparameters by adapting DOE and Taguchi Design of Experimentation. The extension of the newlineexperiment relates to friction welding of similar materials and has extensive applications in newlineindustry. The optimal parameters determined were rechecked by performing a confirmation newlineexperiment and the optimality is established. newline
