Abstract: | The inquisition of chemical compounds from natural products is basically essential for the development of new drugs, especially in prospect of the immense worldwide flora. The present work is extraction, isolation and characterization of active constituents from Ixora javanica D.C and Ixora chinensis Lam flowers and leaves followed by screening for antioxidant and anticancer activities. For some isolated compounds derivatives were prepared and screened. Freshly collected flowers and leaves were shade dried, coarsely powdered and subjected to continuous soxhilation with various solvents like petroleum ether (60-80 °C), ethyl acetate and ethanol (70%) of rising polarity. All the obtained extracts were concentrated and after preliminary phytochemical investigation, column chromatographed using silica gel. From Ixora javanica D.C flowers, three triterpenoidal compounds (Maslinic acid, Ursolic acid and Lupeol), one flavonoidal compound (Formononetin) and two flavonoidal glycosides (Quercetin-3-rutinoside, Quercetin-3-glucoside) have been isolated and further these isolated structures were established by spectral analysis (IR, 1H NMR spectra, 13C NMR and Mass) and direct comparison with authoritative samples. From Ixora javanica D.C leaves: a sterol (and#946;-Stigmasterol), three triterpenoidal compounds (Steviol, Betulin and Lupeol) were separated and characterized. |
