dc.description.abstract | The stability of power system is one of the most vital aspects in electrical system newlineoperation. One of the major problems in modern interconnected power systems is related newlineto the small signal oscillatory instability caused by the presence of low frequency newlineelectromechanical oscillations in the system. The oscillations of low frequency (0.1-2Hz) newlinein a power system can drive the system to unstable state, if proper damping measures are newlinenot considered. One of the effective means of reducing low frequency oscillations is by newlineproviding efficient excitation controller for synchronous machine. Excitation controller newlineconsists of the voltage regulator and the power damping controller. The voltage regulator newlineis meant for keeping the load terminal voltage reasonably constant for different load newlineconditions. However, with the voltage regulator alone in the excitation system, it is not newlinepossible to stabilize the system and suppress the unwanted oscillations when the system is newlineperturbed. In order to minimize this effect leading to an improvement in the damping of newlinethe system, we introduce the supplementary stabilizing signals in the excitation systems. newlineThis is achieved through Power System Stabilizers (PSS) having fixed parameters. newlineIn view of enhancing the power system damping, PSS have been used from time newlineimmemorial. The lead-lag structures form the main entity of PSS. Another controller newlinewhich is most widely used is Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller. Its use as a newlinePSS has not been investigated to its full extent. The commonly used conventional newlinetechniques used for tuning of PID are root locus method and Ziegler-Nichols method. newlineThe objective of this work is to illustrate the utility and effectiveness of the intelligent newlineoptimization methods for tuning the PID controller and conventional PSS parameters newlineconnected to single machine system and system with, multi-machines power system newlinenetwork. newlineIn our work, the bottlenecks of various Artificial Intelligence techniques reported in the newlineliterature are overcome by the implementation | |
