Abstract: Power quality enhancement is a concept, based on the modern power electronics devices designed at enhancing the quality and reliability of power in distribution networks. This thesis focuses on modeling and analysis of custom power quality enhancement devices. The modeling approach involves the design of Shunt Active Filter (SAF) and Shunt Hybrid Filter (SHF) using different current control techniques. newlineThe application of Artificial Intelligence is recently growing in power electronic systems. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Genetic Algorithm (GA), Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA), Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA), Harmony Search Algorithm (HSA) based control methods are developed for Inverters which form the power electronic respiration of the custom power devices. Many research challenges are encountered in minimizing the effects of harmonics in voltage and currents by the advanced power quality enhancement devices such as Dynamic Voltage Restorers (DVR), DSTATCOM (Distributed static compensator ),Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC), Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC), Shunt Active and Hybrid Filters. newlineThere are also very perceptive loads such as processing plants, hospitals, hardware outsource industries, data processing companies and service providers that need clean and uninterrupted power. A group of products can be malfunctioning by voltage distortion of short duration in food processing plants and semiconductor manufacturing plants. Such utilities are very cautious of voltage disturbances since each disturbance cost them a substantial monetary loss. The most concentrated source of harmonics is the rectifier front end on converters and motor drives, computer power supplies, fluorescent lamps and arc furnaces. The voltage at the point of common coupling with other consumers may have lower order harmonics if the source impedance at the point is low. Thus in the changed circumstances the customers increasingly demand quality power supply. The aim is to enrich the power quality in distribution side by
