dc.description.abstract | newlineGrowth of single crystals with high perfection initiates the newlinedevelopment of many novel devices in the fields of optoelectronics newlineferroelectrics sensors nonlinear optics etc Crystals possessing nonlinear newlineoptical NLO properties change the propagation characteristics phase newlinefrequency amplitude polarization of the incident light to meet the newlineapplications in communication high power laser generation by frequency newlineconversion optical switching and advanced optical devices Metal organic newlinecomplex crystals exhibit more advantages compared to organic molecules newlineoffering a variety of structures higher environmental stability and much newlinediversity of tunable electronic properties In addition the presence of metalto newlineligand charge transfer MLCT or ligand to metal charge transfer LMCT newlineand transitions of the conjugated system induces a large polarization newlinewhich in turn increases the nonlinear optical efficiency newlineBimetallic thiocyanate AB newlinecrystals have emerged as potential nonlinear optical materials among the newlinemetal organic compounds They belong to tetragonal crystallographic system newlineand their crystal structures consist of two kinds of slightly flattened newlinetetrahedral AN4 and BS4 These structural features provide with large newlinemacroscopic nonlinearities and excellent physicochemical stabilities The newlinespecial interest on bimetallic thiocyanates is their potential role in direct newlinefrequency doubling of semiconductor diode lasers for the generation of newlinecompact blue violet light However growth of good quality bimetallic newlinethiocyanate single crystal encounters experimental difficulties like low newlinesolubility solution instability and very low growth rate Different adducts like newlinedimethyl sulfoxide DMSO N N dimethylacetamide DMA glycol newlinemonomethyl ether GME and N methyl formamide NMF in bimetallic newlinethiocyanate were introduced and found to be potential materials for nonlinear newlineoptical applications newline | en_US |
