Abstract: | Around the globe industry is forced to diminish down the acceptable newlinelevel of heavy metal in wastewaters As the environmental regulations newlineconcerning the heavy metal content in discharge waste streams become newlineincreasingly strict there is a continuous need to improve the treatment newlinemethods In addition to their toxicity effects even at low concentrations newlineheavy metals can accumulate throughout the food chain which may lead to newlineserious ecological and health hazards as a result of their solubility and newlinemobility For example in the case of nickel ions the acceptable level of nickel newlinein the effluents from the plating industry in India is 2ppm newlineThe present investigation mainly focused on specific characteristics of newlinethe cation exchange resins namely Indion 225 and Dueolite C 20 Amberlite newlineIR 120 using the concept of maximum exchange capacity compare to the newlineother resins reported It also focused to treat the usage of real time newlineelectroplating rinse water from electroplating industries as studies related to newlineheavy metal removal in real time as scarcely available in literature newlineBatch experiments were carried out to study the effect of change in newlineparameters such as contact time pH adsorbent dosage and temperature in a newlinethermo stated orbital mechanical shaker Kinetic studies were carried out newlineusing the adsorbent material in a 100ml conical flask The concentration of newlinethe heavy metal contained in the solution was measured using atomic newlineadsorption spectroscopy newline newline |
