Abstract: | Need for Study newlineThe shortage of competent and qualified faculty members due to high turnover in technical education institutes of India is currently acknowledged as the most critical problem, which is the major focus of this study. newlineTurnover Intention newlineTurnover intention is defined as the reflection of the probability that an individual will change his or her job within a certain time period and is an immediate precursor to actual turnover. When a person actually quits the job, this behavior is preceded by intention to leave. Thus, it is thought that a turnover intention is one of the predictors of turnover behavior . Turnover intention is the strongest turnover predictor (Allen, Byrant, and Vardaman, 2010). newlineFactors affecting Turnover Intention newlineThere are various factors affecting the intention of employees to quit the organization. For the purpose of this study, three factors were identified viz. individual factors, organizational factors and environmental factors. All these factors constitute various parameters, whose impact has been tested on turnover intention of faculty members through this study, to identify the factor significantly contributing to the faculty members intention to quit. newlineStatement of the problem newlineTechnical education is facing no more critical issue than that of its current faculty shortage (Wicklein, 2005). Various researchers have indicated that technical education has been and will continue experiencing a significant teacher shortage unless action is taken to reverse this problem (Newberry, 2001; Ndahi and Ritz, 2003; Meade and Dugger, 2004). Wicklein (2005) indicated that in order to address the issue of the teacher shortage, efforts need to be aimed at recruiting, preparing, and retaining faculty members of technical education institutes at all levels. Hence, this study sought to identify effective retention techniques by determining the factors that influence turnover intention of faculty members of technical education institutes of India. newlineThe objective of this research is to critically eval |
