Abstract: The present study carried out to know the influence of various cinema audience and non-audience factors on the performance/box office collections of the Punjabi and Hindi film industry. Empirical study was done in 9 different cities: Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jallandhar, Gurgaon (now Gurugram), Delhi and Mumbai; and data were collected through primary sources and through secondary sources. newlineIt has been examined in the present study that the economic factors such as demand for cinema, price of the ticket, price of related goods and services, the side costs of going to cinema, are influencing the performance of the Punjabi and Hindi film industry. newlineIt has been found out in the present research that the social and cultural factors such as age of the people, occupation of the people, educational level of parents, income levels of the people, values, beliefs and free time; and the changing social factors like increase in the population and emergence of the young population, urbanization and rise of multiplexes in the country are influencing the performance of the film industry in a significant way. newlineGlobal factors such as internationalization, commercialization and corporatization of the film industry and co-production treaties; and technological factors are also influencing the performance of the film industry as in today s time, film industry operates on full commercial basis. newlineThe government s support to the film industry in the form of tax concessions, regional infrastructure and subsidies are also significantly influencing the performance of the Punjabi and Hindi film industry. newline newline
