Abstract: Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a design approach which organizes the existing IT assets such as the diversified collection of grouped, heterogeneous systems and applications can be transformed into a network of integrated, simplified and highly flexible resources. A web service is an example of an SOA with a well-defined set of implementation choices. Web services are measured as self-contained, self-describing, modular applications that can be published, located, and invoked across the web. The increase of web services affords a surplus of research scope in the frontiers of Service Oriented Architecture. The Service Oriented Architecture had been adopted by many companies and industries because the industry started believing that SOA could help in removing some of the existing issues and mess created in the IT. The repercussion of the modern business process enunciates the need for a paradigm in bringing the tight integrations between the applications or software components which makes it remarkably inflexible to bring in any change into the system. The adaptability and the agility are essential for todayand#8223;s enterprises because of various changes like mergers and acquisitions and government policy changes. The business expects the IT to be more agile towards this changes which will help to be more competitive in the marketplace. It was also realized that, based on our literature that to survive, compete and win, enterprises must adapt, and there is no compromise in that. A web service is an example of an SOA with a well-defined set of implementation choices. In this thesis, the general problem in an automatic composition of semantic web service is explored. A comprehensive survey is presented on various semantic web services concepts applicable to form a composition framework newline
