Role of forgiveness morality psychological well being and aggression in the relationship of empathy and altruism among police personnel

Abstract

The aim of this research work was to explore the role of forgiveness, morality, psychological well-being and aggression as moderators in the relationship between empathy and altruism among police personnel. 300 personnel with equal number of males and females (150 each) formed the final sample which was further divided into two rank groups namely ASI (Assistant Sub Inspector) and SI (Sub-Inspector) rank group (75 personnel in each group respectively). Results revealed significant positive relationship emerged between empathy and altruism. Idealism dimension of morality, six dimensions of psychological well-being viz. autonomy, environmental mastery, purpose in life, positive relationship with others, personal growth and self-acceptance, aggression and its anger dimension emerged as moderators of relationship between empathy and altruism. This work can help in designing modules of effective skill-based training of recruits at police academies as well as in-job training to enhance these variables among personnel. newline
