dc.description.abstract | Vernonia anthelmintica (L.) and Dipcadi saxorum Blatt. were selected for the present work. newlineVernonia anthelmintica (L.) Willd. belongs to family of Asteraceae. The seeds of V. newlineanthelmintica contain 30 % oil, which is a source of 70-80 % vernolic acid. It shows various newlinepharmacological activities like antimicrobial, antibacterial, antifungal, antifilarial, newlinemacrofilaricidal, diuretic, anthelmintic, antioxidant, nematocidal, antihyperglycemic, newlineanalgesic, antipyretic, anticancer, antiviral, vermicidal, malanogenesis and used in skin newlinedisorder formulations. newlineDipcadi saxorum Blatt. is a bulbous non edible poisonous herb of family Hyacinthaceae. It is newlinereported as an endemic and endangered. Thus, this species is prioritized for its conservation. newlineIn the present work, protocols of nursery technology, in vitro seed germination, in vitro newlinemultiplication, callus through regeneration, somatic embryogenesis, rooting of in vitro newlineregenerated shoots, acclimatization of plantlets, fast growing normal root culture, newlinephytochemical analysis and HPTLC profiling of roots and antimicrobial activity of V. newlineanthelmintica and Dipcadi saxorum have beem standardized. Results of RAPD PCR analysis newlineof V. anthelmintica are also reported here. newlineVernonia anthelmintica (L.) : newlineV. anthelmintica exhibits significant morphological variations. It was found that Nashik strain newlineis highly productive than that of Solapur strain. RAPD profiling showed similar sized bands. newlineHence, it can be concluded that both the strains do not show DNA polymorphism. Seed newlinegermination obtained by washing seeds under running tap water for 12 hours gives 45 % newlinegermination within 7-8 days. Growth performance of seed propagated plants was the best in newlinefarm yard manure (FYM) alone. newlineIn vitro clonal propagation, protocol was standardized from apical tip explants of V. newlineanthelmintica. The maximum mean number of shoots 4.0 ± 0.4 per explant were obtained in newlineMS + 2 mg/l 2-ip with 0.5 mg/l IBA with 75 % response. Leaf explants induced good callus newlinein MS + 2mg/l BAP + 0.5 mg/l 2,4-D. The subculture of | |
