Abstract: | There is an enormous growth in the development of technology of replacing the fast newlinedepleting conventional resources of energy by the new and renewable energy resources. The newlinemajor challenge is to make these new resources compatible to communicate with the newlinecomplex grid discipline. Transformation of energy from inherently inconsistent sources and newlineto make it deployable creates a vast field for researchers. newlineToday almost all the generation, transmission and loads are operating in controlled AC newlineenvironment. Although, rapidly increasing use of mobiles, laptops, desktops etc. are newlineprompting to the development of DC nanogrids which are free from complexities of an newlineinverter, easy to manage and are cost effective. newlineThe sources of renewable energy are basically scattered over distant places depending newlineupon their availability. The load centers are also scattered. Based on the convenience and newlineeconomy, the renewable resources supply the energy either by forming a standalone newlinemicrogrid (to cater to the local needs) or by getting integrated with the main grid (where the newlinebidirectional flow of energy is also possible). newlineThe generation of power from renewable resources majorly depends on nature. This newlinewarrants a backup supporting device to complement such resources so that uninterrupted newlinepower supply could be ensured for the consumers. Integration of any storage device with a newlinerenewable resource again is possible only under a controlled environment. newlineFrom above discussion, it is obvious that in a microgrid, deployment of a variety of newlineconverters and their controllers is essential. This opens a large number of possibilities of newlineexploring different possible combinations especially the introduction of technological newlineadvancements in power electronic devices and the types of controllers. newlineAn attempt has been made in this thesis to carry out a detailed study of a standalone newlinemicrogrid comprising of the most popular source of renewable energy i.e. a PV source, the newlinemost viable energy storage device i.e. a supercapacitor, the most apt converter i.e. boost newline |
