Abstract: | Manpower planning is the process of systematically forecasting the future newlinedemand and supply of employees, through which management determines how the newlineorganization should move from its current manpower to its desired manpower newlineutilization. Further human behaviour is highly variable and it is therefore essential to newlinemodel manpower planning that accommodates population heterogeneity. newlineThe main objective of the thesis is to study the problem of time to recruitment newlinefor a single grade manpower system with non- instantaneous exits which forms an newlineordinary renewal process. Considering a more general setting on wastages and different newlineconditions on inter-decision times, several stochastic models are constructed. Two newlineunivariate policies of recruitment based on shock model approach are used. The content newlineof this thesis is organized in nine chapters. In the first chapter, review of literature newlinewhich is relevant to the work are presented. The research work carried out by the author newlineis presented in Chapters 2 to 9 by assuming different conditions on wastages. The newlineproblem is studied in Chapters 2 when the wastages form a sequence of independent newlineand identically distributed exponential random variables. While in Chapter 6 this newlineproblem is studied when the wastages are constantly correlated exponential random newlinevariables, in Chapter 8 it is studied when the wastages form a geometric process. In newlinethese chapters the breakdown threshold has only the normal component and univariate newlineCUM policy is used as recruitment policy. In Chapters 4, 7 and 9 all the assumptions newlineare same as in Chapters 2, 6 and 8 respectively except for the assumption that the newlinebreakdown threshold has two components. Stochastic models of Chapters 2 and 4 are newlinestudied in Chapters 3 and 5 respectively using univariate MAX policy of recruitment. newlineAnalytical results for the performance measures namely mean and variance of time to newlinerecruitment are derived. The influence of nodal parameters on the performance newlinemeasures is studied and relevant findings with the help of numerical |
