Abstract: | The phenomenon of aglng Is the predominant risk factor which accounts for dreadful newlineillness and disorders of later life. Aging is a debilitating process which possesses newlineinsalubrious effects leading to chronic disorders like diabetes and neurodegenerative newlinediseases imposing huge socioeconomic burden. It is associated with various newlinebiochemical and physiological changes which are universal to all living organisms. newlineThe high oxidative stress due to generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) as a newlineresult of various metabolic activities attributes to aging and age related chronic newlinedisorders. But with the advent of various discoveries unravelling multiple signaling newlinepathways affecting aging, it might be feasible to modulate aging and treat age related newlinedisorders. The phenomenon of aging is under genetic control but the mechanism is newlinenot completely known. The world as today stands on a mine of rich flora and this newlineflora has a plethora of different medicinal herbs. There are more than 3000 such newlinemedicinal herbs known for their safer mode of action and negligible side effects. newlineNow a day due to awareness, use of herbal supplements is increasing substantially. newlineThese supplements not only increased the quality of life as well as reduced newlinehealthcare cost. The relationship between the dietary intake of flavonoids rich food newlineand health has been area of scientific interest in recent years. Initially much of newlineresearch was focused on antioxidant activities of bioactive phytomolecules (e.g. newlineVitamin E, Vitamin C, /?-carotene etc.) and their ability to prevent free-radical newlineinduced tissue damage. In present times, the searches for specific bioactive newlinephytomolecules that convey health benefits have widened. newlineMultiple cellular signaling pathways mediating lifespan extension are well newlineestablished in Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans). Discovery of single gene newlinemutation in insulin growth factor (IGF/IIS) in C. elegans has led to the identification newlineof various involved genes which modulate lifespan. newlineIn addition to the insulin signaling pathway there are vari |
