Studies on removal of chromium vi from leather tanning industries in unnao industrial area using biosorption

Abstract

Research problem newlineIndustrialization of cities on one hand has created new job opportunities to the weaker section newlineof society, revenue and foreign exchange earning to the industry owners, infrastructural newlinedevelopment of the area henceforth an overall up gradation of city, however on the other hand newlineit has created a lot of hazardous metallic contamination to environment, land, surface and newlinewater. The toxic metals impact on human being is well known particularly present in drinking newlinewater. Hexavalent chromium is one of these metals impacting almost all parts of human newlineorgans right from skin to vital organs when used for continuously long period. The tanneries newlinepresent in Unnao industrial area are contributing a lot of chromium VI to surface and ground newlinewater bodies due poor waste management system or ineffective operation of effluent treatment newlineplants (ETP) attached to these units resulting in contamination to ground water bodies. The newlinelocal inhabitants are using these water sources for drinking purposes as there is no alternate newlinesource for potable drinking water. In spite from suffering various diseases like dermatitis, newlinedamages of lung kidney and cancer of vital organs they are compelled to drink the same newlinecontaminated water either due to lack of knowledge, awareness for water and its health impact newlineor if all they know then hard to maintain quality water because of big budget purifiers. newlineHenceforth is a big Challenged to provide potable drinking water in Unnao Industrial area for newlineinhabitants to get polluted free drinking water. Therefore present study has main motto to newlineprovide chromium free water to the localities of Unnao by introducing a low cost Technology newlinewhich can remove toxic chromium VI from contaminated water of this area newline
