Transient analyses of State dependent queues with Catastrophes and associated fluid Queues

Abstract

Queueing models play a vital role in the performance anal newlineysis of a wide range of systems in computer communications and an newlinealytical models of queueing systems are often used to understand the newlinesystems and the associated decision making trade that arises in newlinetheir operations newlineThe thesis consists of two parts Part I chapters 2 and newline3 dealing with the transient analysis for queues with state dependent newlinearrival and service rates involving catastrophes and Part II chapters 4 newlineand 5 dealing with uid queues with background queueing processes newlinewhich include those dealt with in Part I Chapter 1 provides a brief newlinesummary of the existing literature on the topics relevant to the prob newlinelems under consideration including the contributions of this thesis newlineChapter two discusses the transient solution for a Markovian queue newlinewith discouraged arrivals in nite servers under the in uence newlineof catastrophes using continued fraction approach The busy period newlineanalyses have been carried out and the results were subsequently used newlinein the appropriate uid models It is observed that the steady state newlinesolutions for the two models under consideration discouraged arrivals newlineand self serving queues dier when catastrophes are incorporated while newlinethey are identical in the absence of catastrophes Numerical illustra newlinetions have been provided to display theect of system parameters newline newline newline newline
