Dissecting the role of an RNA helicase Maheshvara in regulation of Notch signalling and apoptosis in Drosophila melanogaster

Abstract

This study is focused on the characterization of a gene maheshvara(mahe)which encodes an RNA helicase of DEAD box family.maheshvarawasoriginally designated as CG10777 and its cytological position is 7C3 on X-chromosome. maheshvarawas identified in a P element screen which was aimed to identify novel genes affecting life span in Drosophila. One of the P element insertions EP1347 was mapped to 7C3 region of X-chromosome. EP1347 allele of mahe behaves as hypomorphic allele and shows shortened life span. newline
