dc.description.abstractPeroxidases (donor: H2O2 oxidoreductase), are enzymes that oxidize a variety newlineof hydrogen donors at the expense of hydrogen peroxide and alkyl peroxides as newlineoxidants. Peroxidases participate in the activation of plant defense responses mainly newlinethrough their contribution to the oxidative burst where levels of ROS (particularly newlinesuperoxide and H2O2) rapidly increase. There are several potential applications of newlineperoxidases like enzymatic immunoassays, clinical diagnosis, peroxidase biosensors, newlineorganic and polymer synthesis, treatment of wastewater containing phenolic newlinecompounds and removal of peroxides from food stuffs and industrial wastes, synthesis newlineof important metabolites in plants etc. Further investigation is necessary to understand newlinethe protein conformational changes through catalytic efficiency towards various newlinesubstrates especially for enzymes which have wide substrate specificity such as newlineperoxidases.
