Abstract: This piece of work attempts to study the relations between the sole superpower and an emerging power in the contemporary international order. The India-US relations has witnessed a roller-coaster ride since 1950s. This study is focused on the Indo-US relations during the post-Cold-War period, facilitated by the disintegration of the Soviet Union. It newlinebegins with the historical background and proceeds to major events and developments of mutual importance and the involvement of the US in South Asia and attendant problems involving India, Pakistan and China. In the 1990s, the study proceeds to understand the transition from estranged democracies to engaged democracies and marching forward to develop a strategic partnership and become natural partners.
