Abstract: 1. Comprehensive study of Taila Patana reveals that the classical Sneha Paka,Aditya Paka,Druti Kalpana and Patana Vidhi are the different ways to procure the oleaginous medicaments from the herbal and mineral sources. newline2. Taila Patana with Patala Yantra was found to be most appropriate way to obtain Vishwamitra Kapala Taila and such other drugs which are hard in nature. newline3. Patala Yantra,Patana Yantra,Bhoodhara Yantra,Vidyadhara Yantra and Kanduka Yantra are the convenient and feasible devices to obtain the Taila by Patana method. newline4. Recent day Ayurvedic practices and texts emphasize the utility of Vishwamitra Kapala Taila in the treatment of various skin diseases like Eczema, Psoriasis etc; as the oil is irritant one, in practice it is diluted with Coconut oil and used externally over the skin lesion. newlineFrom Pharmaceutical study newline5. While extracting the oil from a standard quantity of Coconut shells of 2 kg from Patala Yantra method,by using 100 Vanopalas and 5 kg husk, maximum percentage of yield was obtained and the maximum yield recorded is 4.35% w/w. newline6. With respect to the ideal raw drug, one year old coconut shells have yielded maximum oil with good quality. newline7. Modified Patala Yantra designed with the convergence of the cycle spokes is found to be ideal for the extraction of Vishwamitra Kapala Taila with good quality and quantity. newline8. The ointment prepared with Vishwamitra Kapala Taila using modern base, with the working formula ,Vishwamitra Kapala Taila 5.0%w/w, Yellow Bees wax 5.0%w/w and White Soft Paraffin 90%w/w is found more suitable and stable form of modified dosage form when compared to other pharmaceutical modifications like Gel, Cream and Malahara prepared with the base of Siktha Taila. newline newlineFrom Analytical study newline9. The analytical study of Vishwamitra Kapala Taila revealed following Physico- chemical values - newline Refracive index at 280C is 1.4917 newline Specific gravity : 1.1467 g/ml at 27and#730;C newline Loss on drying at 105oC : 67.08 % w/w newline Total Ash : 0.193% w/w newline Acid Insoluble ash : 0.097 % w/w
