Abstract: | Eco-philosophy is the central theme of environmental ethics. The term ecophilosophy is an umbrella term encompassing so many intricate issues of newlineenvironmental philosophy. It is also the paradigm of non-anthropocentrism which is a newlinedebatable issue in the sphere of environmental ethics. When the synopsis of the thesis newlinewas proposed and submitted, it was a mere proposal and its outcome uncertain. After newlineconducting the research, it seems inescapable that environmental ethics is deeply newlineassociated with the debate between anthropocentrism and non-anthropocentrism at newlinelarge. Environmental ethics through the programme of eco-philosophy endeavours to newlinedevelop non-anthropocentrism rather than anthropocentrism. Non-anthropocentrism is newlinestill an extremely controversial issue and there are different philosophical arguments newlineboth for and against this proposal. Many would say that non-anthropocentrism is not at newlineall possible and so it remains a challenging issue especially when considering nonanthropocentrism within the context of eco-philosophy and the realm of environmental newlineethics. However, theoretically, non-anthropocentrism is possible. Surely it is arrogant newlineto assume that men are the measures of all things when the reality in the ground shows newlinesomething quite different. This paper argues that within the environment, all biotic and newlineall abiotic communities are equal in the sense that each of them knowingly or newlineunknowingly contributes something for the betterment of the environment. This is what newlinethe relevance of eco-philosophy actually hinges on. |
