dc.description.abstractSwift increase of multimedia content requires high demand for compression algorithms to effectively store transfer and retrieve them Nowadays cartoon like images are widely used in webcomics animations and communication in social media etc and moreover there is no specific compression standard for such images after PNG file format This research work focuses on lossless still image compression for cartoon like images Cartoon images are the simple form of image data with crisp boundaries and smooth color regions In the overall the image compression algorithms could be categorized into two classes block based and pixel based where the pixel based coding methods outperform the former one as they are highly focused to remove spatial redundancy In specific the pixel based methods with edge information is superior in image encoding. There are three different edge based image compression methods proposed in this research work The proposed image compression methods are achieved in two steps edge coding and color coding In the proposed coding method the edges are identified with zero crossing edge detection operator. newline
