dc.description.abstract | Natures wonderful gift showered to us is water which plays a vital role in the development of an economy and in turn for the welfare of a nation About 97 of the water is salty and nondrinkable which is in the form of sea and ocean Remaining 3 is fresh water of these 2 is stored as icebergs in Polar Regions And only 1 is fresh water which is used directly for human needs and industrial purposes The fresh water is contaminated by industrialization and civilization The demand of drinking water is one of the major problems in the developing and under developed countries of the world Water desalination is a proven and developing technology for supplying clean water to surmount this problem Solar still converts the contaminated or brackish water into clean water which can be utilized as drinking water for day to day requirements Mainly people living in rural and arid areas can use the solar still for their partial needs of fresh water The daily yield of the solar still is limited Many research works were carried out in the proper selection of design and operational parameters which plays an important role in the performance of a basin type solar still The parameters having a toll the daily yield of solar still are solar radiation intensity wind velocity atmospheric temperature water surface area basin surface area inlet temperature of water and water depth The solar radiation intensity atmospheric temperature and wind velocity are metrological parameter which cannot be controlled Whereas the other parameters such as basin surface area inlet temperature of water water depth water surface area can be modified to increase the daily yield of the solar still. newline | |
