Abstract: | Higher educational institutions strive to create, develop and preserve their intellectual capital by retaining their faculty members who score high in performance standards. Therefore, performance and retention of faculty members has always been a subject of interest for researchers, educationists and academic leaders. Presently, the main criteria of assessing the performance of faculty members in the educational institutions are their academic achievements, domain knowledge, subject expertise, research work, publications etc., that are indicative of their cognitive abilities. However, there are other forms of intelligence which affect the performance of an employee at the work place. newlineIn this research study, two forms of intelligence i.e. emotional and spiritual intelligence have been studied to analyze their impact on faculty performance and retention. Literature review covers several research publications regarding the concepts and issues related to the study, current research trends, and avenues for further study. Scope of the study is limited to the engineering and management institutions in the selected cities of North India with a sample size of 531 respondents. Primary data have been collected through a structured questionnaire based on 5- point Likert scale having 127 questions besides demographic data of the respondents. Genos Emotional Intelligence Inventory has been used to measure Emotional Intelligence; Spiritual Intelligence is measured through King s Spiritual Intelligence Self Report Inventory; and faculty performance has been measured through a questionnaire designed based on the parameters considered in the performance assessment models of University Grants Commission (UGC), National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF). Standard inventories for EI and SI have been suitably adapted for the Indian context. A questionnaire has also been developed to identify the factors affecting faculty retention. newlineRelationship of academic credentials of faculty members wi |
