Abstract: Ground water contamination with arsenic (As) is one of the major threats to human health. Arsenic enters the ground water through natural weathering of arsenic bearing rocks and minerals and by discharge of effluents of various industries like petroleum refining, fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides, glass and ceramics, wood preservatives, alloys and electronics. Ground water contamination with arsenic is reported from the countries like Bangladesh, China, Canada, Argentina, Mongolia, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Finland. In India states like West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and parts of Chandigarh are also facing acute problem of arsenic contamination newline
