Screening Identification and Partial Purification and Molecular Characterization of L Asparaginase from Marine Actinomycetes

Abstract

Ocean, a dynamic resourceful environment is supporting the growth of many ubiquitous microbial forms which include the widely distributed Actinomycetes species also. In the marine environment, Actinomycetes are the major source of different metabolites, in which Streptomyces contribute the most. Besides, these species are less toxic and belong to the category of GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe). Streptomyces are the major source of various antibiotics and many commercial and therapeutic enzymes. Therapeutic enzymes are the only treatment available for certain metabolic disorders and certain type of cancers. For example, Asparaginase is the most preferred therapeutic enzyme for Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) prevalent in children. As it is immunogenic in nature, the search for a new source for the production of this therapeutic agent is the need of the hour in the medical industry.
