Abstract: | The present study captioned the history of Rural Health newlineAdministration in TamilNadu . Since Independence attempts to analyse newlineand discuss the growth and development of Rural Health Services in newlineTamil Nadu from the attainment of Independence to the present day. The newlineState of Tamil Nadu occupied the South eastern part of peninsular India. newlineRural Health Services are provided to population groups to prevent newlinedisease and to maintain Health. Till eleventh century Buddha Vihars with newlineJain mutts and Hindu Temples play a vital role in promoting health. By newline1921-1922 all the states had created some form of Rural Public Health newlineOrganisation. The Department of Rural Health was formed during 1923 newlinein erstwhile Madras State with the main objectives of provision of newlinematernal and control of communicable diseases. newlineThe Health Secretariat was the official head of the Ministry of newlineHealth and Family Welfare. In 1966 by merging the Medical Department newlineand the Department of Health Service and Family Planning was newlinebifurcated into the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine newlineand the Department of Medical Services and the Department of Family newlineWelfare. In January 1999, the Directorate of Medical Services was newlinebifurcated and a Separate Directorate to look after the implementation of newlinethe E.S.I. Scheme which was formed on 01.01.1999. From 1991 onwards newlinethis Department namely the Department of Medical and Rural Health newlineServices is being entrusted with the responsibility of rendering Medical newlineCare Services to the public through the non teaching medical institution |
