Abstract: | The development of waste utilisation/recycling technologies is the need of the hour especially in the energy intensive cement production and its consumer industries. To attain the sustainable construction application, geopolymer technology derived from industrial wastes is very attractive wherein the material mixes can be designed from maximum utilisation of industrial wastes mainly Fly ash and Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag. This research program detailed the results of FA+GGBS blended geopolymer in terms of their fresh properties and compressive strength. newlineAlkali activated cementious material derived from wide blending ratio of Fly ash in GGBS studied (0-100%) and by varying the silica modulus at 0.6, 1.1 and 1.6. The effects of addition of GGBS in Fly ash are investigated for the compressive strength and fluidity performances along with the control mixes of 100%FA and 100% GGBS. The blended geopolymer FA: GGBS=4:1(80-20), 1:1 (50-50), 1:4 (20-80) showed promising performances. newlineThe compressive strength test results demonstrated that a linear relationship between silica modulus, Ms (SiO2/Na2O) and weight % of GGBS content. Though the addition of GGBS in FA improved the strength, the addition of GGBS above 20% found to have negative impact on fresh property by lowering the setting rate and workability. As increasing the silica modulus of alkali silicate increases the yield stress due to thickening of the geopolymer slurry. The strength improvement for 1:1 and 1:4 was found to be increased by 10%, 18% compared to 4:1 blend ratio newline |
