Abstract: | The research title, Thoughts in Economic Planning in India , endeavors to understand the dynamics the economic planning in India aimed at addressing the economic grievances of masses. The period from 1920 to 1964 was a period of transition, emergence of new ideas, enhanced contacts with other countries accompanied by revolutionary changes in the field of press and education. The research considers for evaluation the economic planning thoughts that emerged and consolidated in the Indian independence movement, and then it goes onto examining the Raj policies and planning. Discrete attention has been given to explore the nationalist perspective of economic planning in contrast to the thought of the Congress compensates, business class, and the Communists. Due to engagements of different strata, the ambiguity hence formed, led to conflict tendencies. which further complicated, as each stratum produced own plan; NPC-Subcommittee reports, Bombay Plan, People s Plan, Gandhian plan and nadir Muslim League plan, reflecting different perspective and dimensions. The planning decisions were the result of collective thinking, done aloud and often abrasively, with diverse views conflicting and complementing each other. Eventually, foreign intelligence, the dark horse of this game, changed the dimension of planning. India was the main ideological pitch of cold war powers between Capitalist America and Communist Russia, particularly after the communist lapse in China. The surreptitious operations of external agencies stole the show from Indian leaders and planners and this resulted in the economy of India being mixed economy . newline |
