Abstract: | The term Ceramics is arrived from the Greek word keramos which is to be defined in specific as a non-metallic and inorganic solid materials. Most of the ceramics materials are compounds of metals and non-metals. Ceramic compounds mostly consist of oxides, nitrides, and carbides. The studies on ceramic materials reveal that these materials are having their unique properties such as pyroelectricity, piezoelectricity, superconductivity, and so on. With respect to the above significance, the present research work explains the synthesis of some rare earth based ceramic compounds and newlinetheir characterization in seven chapters. The first chapter explains the background and motivation of the research work presented in the thesis along with the aim and objectives of the study. Chapter 2 discusses the method of synthesis of ceramic compounds and the basics and instrumentation of characterization techniques utilized for the analysis of various properties of the prepared compounds. Chapters 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 form the essential part of the thesis and elaborate the results and discussion of the research work. In chapter 3, inducing multiferroic behavior in Dy2O3system through chemical modification by Fe2O3 is discussed. TheorthoferriteDy2-xFexO3 compounds are prepared by solid state reaction method. The single phase formation of the pure and Dy2-xFexO3 compounds are confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction method and the change in crystal structure is identified newline |
