Abstract: | Over the past years, advancement in technology has increased the use of newlinewind energy system and reduces the dependency on renewable energy sources. newlineRenewable energy sources have become alternative sources for generating power due newlineto increasing demand and population which offers clean and pollution free. For fixed newlinespeed operation of Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) squirrel cage induction newlinegenerators are operated for a particular speed. Variable speed generator system with newlineDoubly Fed Induction Generators (DFIGs) and Permanent Magnet Synchronous newlineGenerators (PMSGs) are used. PMSG is mostly operated for standalone applications newlineas it has the advantages like, 1) No gear box is required, 2) No rotor copper loss, 3) newlineand it provides improved efficiency. The main aim of this thesis is to develop a newlinesimple method which focuses on the maximum power generation for various wind newlinevelocities by the generator side controllers and to develop a controller at the load side newlinefor controlling the active and reactive powers. newlineThe primary aspect of this thesis is to develop a control of PMSG newlineconnected to load for variable wind speed operation with maximum extraction of newlinepower. The Field Oriented Control (FOC) is applied at Generator Side Converter and newlineVoltage Oriented Control is applied at load side converter. Amount of power from newlineWECS depends on the maximum power tracked by the Maximum Power Point newlineTechniques (MPPT) irrespective of the generator type newline |
