Abstract: | Industrial revolution and the green revolution, not only brought a constructive transformation in terms of the economy and food security for many nations, besides it also resulted in an upsurge in the level of disposal of pollutants into the environment. Since the mid-twentieth century, there has been a significant increase in the prevalence of reproductive-health related diseases and disorder among men and women around the world. This increase in the incidence of the reproductive diseases in a way may ascribe to environmental pollutants, which pose a potential endocrine disrupting activity and their increasing prevalence in the environment. These chemical perturb the endocrine balance, leading to reproductive disorders in the exposed organism. Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are the natural or synthetic man-made chemicals which interfere with the hormonal system of an organism. The Hypothalamo-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis of an organism is a highly dynamic system, which is sensitive to different environmental cues. Hormones being secreted in minute quantities, that bring about targeted physiological action in the specific tissues or cells. Therefore, even the presence of EDC s in the environment at minute quantity may intend to perturb the orchestration of the two intricate systems; the endocrine and reproductive system in the body newline |
