Abstract: The aim of this study was to developed microemulsion based ocular formulation of newlinefluoroquinolone derivative (Ciprofloxacin HCl and Ofloxacin) to control the release of newlinethe drug. For preparation of microemulsion, pseudo-ternary phase diagrams were newlineconstructed by incorporating required ratio of Smix, oil, and water. The nine newlinemicroemulsion of Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride (M1 to M9) and Ofloxacin (OM1 to newlineOM9) were prepared on the basis of microemulsion area present in phase diagram. newlineThe prepared Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride and Ofloxacin microemulsion were newlineevaluated for globule size, zeta potential, polydispersity index, percentage drug newlinecontent, viscosity, conductivity, percentage transmittance and pH. The findings of newlineabove parameter exhibited that the values were in desired range. The in vitro release newlinestudies of prepared microemulsion demonstrated sustained release property. The M3 newlineand OM5 released maximum drug at 8 hrs, and both microemulsion were selected for newlinefurther studies. TEM, antibacterial activity and stability studies were performed for newlineM3 and OM5, and results were satisfactorily. The gel of microemulsion M3 and OM5 newlinewere prepared by incorporating in carbopol940, and evaluated for homogeneity, newlinegrittiness, spreadability, viscosity, pH and drug content; results were within acceptable newlinelimits. The Ex vivo permeation study of M3 and OM5 gel demonstrated sustained newlinerelease property and also exhibited more permeability compared to marketed eye drop newlinethrough goat cornea. The data of stability studies illustrates that M3 gel and OM5 gel newlinestored at room temperature and accelerated temperature were found to be stable. In newlineconclusion, Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride and Ofloxacin gel were successfully newlinedeveloped from microemulsion and observed sustained release of drugs in comparison newlineto their marketed eye drop. newline
