Abstract

Osteoporosis is a life threatening bone disease which commonly affects women after their menopause and also the elderly people of above 80 years of age group. It primarily causes mild bone fracture and on extreme situations may even lead to death of an individual The bone becomes more porous and fragile It also causes reduction in height of the patients Early diagnosis of osteoporosis saves the life of the people It helps to provide proper treatment to avoid serious conditions The diagnosis is based on bone mineral density BMD values obtained at preferred skeletal sites such as femoral neck lumbar spine and sometimes at forearm based on guidelines from World Health Organization WHO and National Osteoporosis Foundation newline
