Power transmission and distribution system is the fast growing sector in India The distribution of generated power to the load terminal from the power generating stations needs technological improvement and maximum utilization of transmission infrastructure. The drawback of newly developed power transmission system is high initial investment for equipments and environmental issues But the optimal utilization of this transmission system by cost effective and easily implementable devices like shunt compensators or series compensators at proper locations has make a challenge in the situation of open access and deregulation FACTS devices are the exact choice for power flow enhancement and Proper location of FACTS devices in the transmission network and their design helps in proper planning and operation of large power networks within their maximum thermal limit This thesis work aims to obtain the solution for multi objective Optimal Power Flow OPF problem by placing the Unified Power Flow Controller UPFC in the power transmission system to maximize the loadability minimize the total power generation cost and real power losses. Optimal operation of electric power system networks involves solving of challenging multi objective optimization problems with nonlinear and nonconvex characteristics newline
