Abstract: | Concrete being the largest manmade material used on earth is requiring good quality of aggregates in large volumes The availability of natural coarse aggregate is depleting day by day due to countless demand in infrastructure industry Aggregates are the main ingredient of concrete occupying 70 80 of its volume and exert a significant influence in concrete properties A need was felt to identify potential alternative source of coarse aggregate to fulfil the future growth aspiration of infrastructure industry Use of by products such as slag sludge from the metallurgical industries as filler materials in concrete helps to conserve natural resources as an economically positive option Slag an industrial by product of steel and iron smelting operations, can be recycled because it has increased consistently with the development of the steel industry In many applications due to its unique physical structure slag outperforms the natural aggregate for which it is used as an alternate aggregate material in concrete Several studies proved that the use of steel slag in concrete as aggregate improves the mechanical and durability properties newline |
