A growing interest in crystal growth particularly in view of the increasing demand for materials with technological applications has led to nonlinear optics and ferroelectrics gaining popularity among crystal growers They have important applications in the area of opto electronics photonics and memory devices High performance electro optical switching elements for telecommunications and optical information processing are based on their material properties Hence there is always a continuous search for new and better materials The first chapter of this thesis reviews the various crystal growth methods The solution phase growth technique is used to avoid the decomposition of the material and to grow crystals at low temperatures Two promising fields benefited due to crystal growth are ferroelectrics and nonlinear optics both of which have been dealt with A brief introduction has been given about the characterization techniques and the instrumentation details Also the scope of the thesis is presented in detail
