Abstract: | This study titled and#8215;Challenging Stereotypes: A Study On The Unexplored newlineVoices In Selected Works Of Devdutt Pattanaik has its focus on revisionist writing newlineand in specific on the way in which stereotypical gender images are challenged and newlinereconstructed in selected narratives of Devdutt Pattanaik. newlineRevisionist writing is a growing, significant domain of study of mythology. newlineMyths are being retold by several writers to represent them in the context of today and newlinealso to challenge the stereotypical images which was offered by ancient mythology, newlinewriters question most of the archetypal portrayals of women in particular and repaint newlinethem with a new perspective. Where Pattanaik differs from the other writers is that he newlineis a male writer interpreting women characters from mythology and within the context newlineof the original texts. newlinePattanaik belongs to a genre of writers who writes differently as he roots his newlinewomen characters in the original framework of texts and yet gives it a fresh thinking newlinein the way in which he projects them in various situations and stories. To him the entire newlinesociety is bound by myth as he unravels each ritual practiced in the modern society, newlinecustoms and actions of these epic women without distorting facts. Since most of newlinehis books carry the very premise of his writing and interpretation, this thesis focusses newlineon his framework or theory of mythology. newline |
