Abstract: One quarter of the worlds drugs come from natural sources primarily from microorganisms and plants As terrestrial resources become over explored attention has been turned towards the marine environment as an alternative source for novel bioactive metabolite The marine environment contains over 80 of worlds plant and animal species In recent years many bioactive compounds have been extracted from marine environment The search for new metabolites from marine organisms has resulted in the isolation of more than 10000 metabolites many of which are endowed with pharma codynamic properties Marine secondary metabolites are organic compounds produced by microbes sponges seaweeds and other marine organisms Some of these secondary metabolites offer avenues for developing cost effective safe and potent drugs In recent years they are many reports concerning the seaweed derivative metabolites with wide scope of medicinal activities Seaweeds are the eukaryotic organisms that live in salty water and are recognized as a potential source of bioactive natural products newline
