Abstract: | The electricity distribution system has become highly deregulated and congested and its exponential growth increases the complexity of operation and control Power electronics based power conversion systems have emerged as additional facilitators along with the conventional power system with improved operational methodologies The reactive power management is a long felt requirement in the electricity distribution network and that has been addressed by the manual inclusion of capacitive KVARs into the power system at strategic locations However the traditional fixed capacitor method has some inherent inconveniences In the basic form of implementation of this method it requires continuous monitoring of the system parameters closely and energize or deenergize the required capacitor banks at the required point of time as it may be required Another disadvantage with the fixed capacitor method is that with the fixed capacitor based reactive power compensation if it is required to connect a certain capacitive KVAR to the system and if the value of the capacitor is not available then the nearest value of the capacitor has to be used It results in a compensation which is not really required newline |
