Abstract: | Alzheimers disease is the most devasting neurodegenerative disease with progressive loss of memory The disease is characterized by a reduced level of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine extracellular deposition of and#7838; amyloid mainly derived from an amyloid precursor protein Alzheimer s disease is the prominent cause of dementia in elderly patients between the age of 60 and 85 years The global prevalence of people with dementia was estimated to be 24 million and it is predicted to double every 20 years Till now there is no cure available for Alzheimers disease hence there is a high demand in the search for a valuable therapeutic alternative for the patient with memory impairment This study aimed to determine the anticholinesterase activity of selected herbs by in vitro assay using Ellman s assay anti amyloidogenic activity in neuronal cells and ameliorative activity in scopolamine induced amnesic mice Alzheimers disease needs a multi target drug strategy for the prevention and symptomatic treatments Crude ethanol extracts of the bark of Commiphora berryi Burseraceae leaves of Aristolochia bracteolata Aristolochiaceae Cadaba indica Capparaceae Capparis sepiaria Capparaceae Commiphora caudata Burseraceae and Commiphora caudata var pubescens Burseraceae were selected for investigation. newline |
