Abstract: The power supply technology has undergone tremendous change in the past few decades owing to the development of power electronic devices These power supplies are an integral part of various applications from consumer electronics to space exploration from ecological friendly sources of energy to defence electronics and transport utilities This wide range of newlineapplications require power supplies ranging from low compact electronic equipment to very large power drives The electrical energy harvesting has led to innovative research in the field of converters and inverters for more energy efficient conversion circuits AC and DC power modules are being researched worldwide DC power modules with high DC conversion ratio without losing efficiency reliability cost minimal EMI or space is challenging for universal power supplies that can accept any utility line voltage around the globe Within a consumer electronic device there may be requirements for various voltage levels For e g in a laptop CPU there is the requirement of different power supply modules to power 3 3 V microprocessor 15 V main board or 5 V logic circuits A distributed power supply integrates all such power modules These power modules are required to provide low voltage and high current in the range of 2 5 V 60 A 1 8 V 60 or 1 V 100 A In the near future the voltage levels may further come down to less than one volt with appropriate increase in current levels up to 400 A This would necessitate a suitable power module capable of handling low voltage and high current without losing reliability and efficiency newline newline
